a. Most of Friday I was feeling like I needed an affirming hug from a man. Although I did not get the literal hug, I was hugged verbally by my man AB, my stepfather, and my dad. All three called me today to encourage me. Each time I got off the phone I felt like God was with me. While I didn't tell anyone I needed the affirmation, he knew it, and provided it.
b. I spent the afternoon working on projects that will launch on Marriage Works! this week. I found a new library where the wifi would be solid. Good call because I got a lot done.
c. When we got back to our host home I helped change light fixture sockets. It was a first for me, and fortunately no one got electrocuted. ;-0
d. Cetelia and I had a nice walk tonight. I vented, then got quiet to listen to her perspective. She's a wise woman!
e. The 81 year-old Willie Nelson has a new album. The first track is called, "Bring it On." I listened to it a couple of times today, and really liked the first verse and chorus. They both exude with confidence, and that's exactly what I need right now:
They say there’s no gain without pain. Well I must be gaining a lot. But I’ll give it all that I’ve got, so bring it on. Well it seems I’ve been here before. So if this means that there is more, bring it on. It’s written in the good book that we’ll never be asked to take anymore than we can. Sounds like a good plan, so bring it on!
Lesson Learned
1. Balance is the key. Today was Saturday, which means we had our common dialogue with the kids about how much time they'd have on their digital devices playing games. While we have good reasons for limiting their time, we have to balance the guidelines with common sense. It can be defeating to make rules that sound good, but are difficult to enforce or create contention. The key is balance. Today we gave them an extra hour, and (I believe) kept looking for reasons/ways to say, "Yes." Balance is the key.
